Robert De Niro, Liev Schreiber, Misha Collins, and Oleksandr Rudinsky paid tribute to Ukrainian Oscar winners

To coincide with the 2025 Academy Awards ceremony, Ukraine WOW released a video featuring Robert De Niro, Liev Schreiber, Misha Collins, and BAFTA 2025 winner Oleksandr Rudinsky. They paid tribute to Ukrainians who have previously etched their names into the history of the Oscars.

Among them:

  • Composer Dmitri Tiomkin, originally from Kremenchuk, who won four Oscars in the 1950s for his music in High Noon, The High and the Mighty, and The Old Man and the Sea;

  • Varvara Karinska, a Kharkiv native, who received the first Oscar for Best Costume Design in 1949’s Joan of Arc;

  • Yevhen Mamut, an expert in special effects and animation, who, alongside American colleagues in 1987, won an Oscar for Visual Effects in Predator;

  • Jack Palance, born Vladimir Palahniuk, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in City Slickers;

  • Anatoly Kokush, a Ukrainian engineer who, in 2006, received two Oscars for scientific and technical achievements – the invention of the "Cascade" and "Autobot" camera cranes;

Thanks to them, iconic film franchises such as X-Men, Batman, and Harry Potter were made possible, as well as standalone blockbusters like 1997’s Titanic.

The video was created by the public organization Ukraine WOW, together with Aurora Multimarket.
